Why To Refinish Instead Of Paint Cabinets For Your Kitchen Remodel

There are a lot of decision to make throughout the kitchen remodeling process. That’s why we’re here to help you achieve your dream kitchen while also staying within your budget.

So why should you choose cabinet refinishing over cabinet painting for your kitchen remodel?

Why Update Your Kitchen Cabinets?

First, it’s important to know that updating your cabinets is the single most impactful way to transform your kitchen. If you’re only going to do one kitchen update, focus on your cabinets.

Here’s why cabinet refinishing is the stand out choice compared to painting.

Painting

While some kitchen remodelers opt for painting their cabinets to achieve a popular white kitchen, there are a few things to consider before defaulting to paint. Painting requires significantly more time than refinishing—especially if you do it yourself. Also, with painting, the chances of drips, unwanted brush strokes, and peeling is high, meaning you’ll likely need to fix these blemishes or restore your painted cabinets again in just a few short years.

Refinishing

One of the top reasons people love refinished or stained cabinets is because these methods enhance rather than conceal natural wood grains. Refinishing is a faster way to repair fading or wear and restore tone and color to your cabinets, providing more depth and dimension than a painted cabinet.

Also, cabinet refinishing can be completed in as a little as one day—meaning less downtime for your busy family.

I would like to reset the look of my kitchen and allow the cabinets to be stained because I’m going for a more rustic look this time. It’s true that refinishing a cabinet will give it more depth, so maybe I should hire a service to do this. In my opinion, I think that stained cabinets would be a more versatile solution in case I go for another kitchen design, so I might consider having this done.
